HOT!!! HOT!!! HOT!!!

Really it is not that bad if you fish really early in the morning or late in the evening.  During our last three trips out we have brought back 62 pounds.
This is a channel cat we caught on a hot dog this morning.

12.13 Ounces!  All together, this morning, we brought home 20 fish weighing in at 37.10 pounds.

This is a new TightLine Fishing cap we are sporting...
Wish I would of thought about one these a LONG time ago!!!

This is a view of the shore near the twin bridges on Hwy 6.  There are a lot more exposed rocks now - I figure the lake is down almost three feet.  Tough place to lanch a boat when you are by yourself - but, this is a GREAT area to catch shad.

SASSY - Turkey, Gar and Deer - all in one morning!!!

In know your not going to believe this but, I think that Sassy gets a "smell" view of the area we are going to fish and then IT IS ON!!!! She has some weird way of getting us to the fish.

This is the 36 Bridge going to Gatesville. If you head to the right (under the bridge) - we have been fishing in an area just off a sand bar. The water has been about 86 degrees - seems too hot to catch fish - but, we have been fortunate these past few early mornings with cut shad and hot dogs.
When she stands up on the front of the USS Sassy like this I know there must be fish under us...

Sometimes you catch stuff you do not want to see... this gar was fun to bring in but was not on the menu!
Not sure - but I think this is her telling me its getting a little too hot for catfishing! Or, she wants me to hurry because she forgot to set the DVR for a show on Animal Planet she does NOT want to miss.
I put this picture on here because - it is not everyday that you see wild turkeys and deer (one was a good size buck). We spotted these near the Cedar Creek boat ramp this morning. I let Sassy out to see what would happen... to my surprise - the Turkey's did not run away!!!! Sassy ran up on them and they chased her away from their feeding area.

Hot Weather, Bass and Wieners - weird COMBO!

There are MANY weird things that can, and do, happen while we are out on our fishing excursions.  Some events you try to remember and others - well....
This fish was a 3.7 pound bass that we caught in eight foot of water with a HOT DOG!!!! Anyway, she swam away after having to endure a lot of Rick trauma!
Our water level is dropping really fast and it is becoming more and more dangerous to travel through the low waters to get to the Catfish areas we usually fish.
We will be taking a break from Lake waco for a while and heading to Belton for a few days - just to see if Sassy can sniff out any areas worth baiting!  We will stay in touch!

GORED BY A CATFISH and LIVED TO TELL THE STORY....

There is no free tuition in the school of experience. Have you EVER been speard by a Catfish... only one thing to say... PAIN!   YES, I have a very dangerous job!!! While pulling in this fish last night I was GORED in the ELBOW of all places!  I have never wanted to cry so bad - but, I held it in.
I always try and remember what my Grandma told me a million times - and I quote...
"Once it stops hurting, it will feel a lot better!!!"
Great night of fishing - 8 keepers and 22 we released! Lots of fun!

NIGHT FISHING!!!

These three (the catfish) were caught on cut bull-nose shad.  Between the three catfish - they weighed in at 36 pounds.  All togehter we caught 56 pounds of catfish - not bad for 100+ degree day!!!
Of course, the older we get, the smarter/wiser we think we are, we have started fishing only at night.  Sure saves on the sunscreen.

I like to think that I communicate with the fish... first cast - I pulled this bass in with a cut shad.

Its Hot - But... the Fish are Biting!!!!

Lake Waco is full of Catfish!  We catch a lot of catfish early in the mornings!  These were caught on an Open Reel -10 lb test line this morning.  We've been fishing with cut-shad and hot dogs at about 8-10 feet.
This one we let go but, WOW! It was fun to catch - I only wish I could of gotten a picture of Rick's face when it almost took his pole in the water!!!!  This one was caught on a hot dog, off the bottom at about 7am this morning near the twin bridges.

Just Thinkin'

Sometimes I wonder what she is thinking... I find that I can read her pretty good sometimes and this morning she is for sure thinking about the school of Channel Cats she is going to lead us too... Or maybe she was thinking about the time Alex and Harry backed the truck and boat down this very ramp....a day we will all remember....  (that is another story)...!

These are just a few of the ones we caught with HOT DOGS this morning.  We were fishing in 9 foot of water near the Midway dock.

Random picture of my beautiful daughter Alex and her "little" brother Harry who is taller than her now!

WHAT?! - BASS and CALM WINDS!!!!!

I was asked a bunch of times over the last few days about fishing trips and if we tried to catch anything else besides catish... FIRST of all I did not know there was anything else but catfish - but I was wrong...  Here is a nice little bass caught next to the twin bridges with live shad - we were only fishing 10-12 foot deep.

Some of you guys out there will remember Vera Lee - she was the backbone to the Charlie McCleary Tennis Center for close to twenty years - I am not really sure how she maintain control of Ronnie, Ed, Brian, Adam, Tyrone, Bernie, Carol, Dale, Drew, Rick and MANY MANY others...  She is special and doing GREAT and this is her son Tommy.  Tommy is holding a five pound Bass caught off a live shad while we were drift fishing in 8 foot of water - for catfish!!!!

This what the water looked like about 8:30 pm... not bad for 102 degree day!
Lets Go Fishing!!!!

Summer Nights...

This has got to be one of the BEST reasons to come out on Lake Waco - even it the Catfish are biting...

As you may know by now - Sassy has a way of sniffing out the big ones... this one was 5.5 pounds...
(FYI - that is Sassy's Summer cut)

This one is 18 pounds and YES we released it - and YES Rick was upset.....

This little gar is DANGEROUS!  They are fast and everyone of those teeth are SHARP!

Waco's - Habitat for Humanity AND Ash, Nick, Mom and Dad!

This past Thursday - Wes, Rick and I got to fry up some Catfish for about 50 of Waco's Cornerstone Building Partners for the Waco Habitat for Humanity.  This is a non-denominational Christian housing ministry helping to eliminate substandard and poverty housing in Waco - since 1986, Waco Habitat for Humanity has built over 130 simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with low-income families in need.  This is TightLines second year sponsoring this event...
The Fish Fry went GREAT!  Emily and John helped make the event smooth and easy!  If you ever want to do something special for our community - go and volunteer to help build a house - the people at Habitat are super.   My wife Leni is a volunteer along with many of our Little Caesars staff members.  They will all tell you - the feeling of helping others is nothing short of awesome!

This is my daughter Ashley - Ash and Nick are expecting my Grandchild about December 9th!!!  They joined us for the fish fry.  By the way - Nick and I tricked about 44.5 lbs of fish into the boat this morning!!!  That equaled almost 14 lbs of filets 100 lbs of fun!

Here is Nick with a Bass we caught near the Waco Dam.  Take note of the nice smile... Nick just graduated from Dental School - he and Ash are moving to Florida - where they will live while Nick is serving our Country in the Air Force.  We are very proud of them!

On a side note... Dr. Sager was very careful to remove the hook from each fish with precision and compassion!

My Dad and Mom with Ash and Nick... Proud Grandparents!
